The most energetic and frenetic time of the year for most of us is Christmas. It seems that we are so consumed by preparations and planning for the festivities that there is little time to consider anything else. But consider we must. Cooking for Christmas is the most time consuming task of all and it is obviously not the normal fare. For some,Christmas cooking is just a bit too challenging for their culinary skills. So to avoid disappointment and the fear of criticism, some simple yet effective ideas for meals have been devised for you to buy and prepare well in advance. Your guests and family will certainly enjoy the results and hopefully you will be applauded for your talent!

There is a simple solution to the problem and that is to prepare and freeze dishes in advance. In that way there is less pressure to perform miracles when short of time and allows you the space to create some wonderful casseroles that you know your family will enjoy at your leisure, thus reducing the risk of failure. Casseroles and similar dishes are perfect for prior preparation and freezing and are ideal for the times when cooking a meal is the least of your priorities. If you have guests to dinner in the Christmas holidays a home cooked casserole with a traditional edge to it will always be well received. You can prepare and freeze your favorite dishes months in advance and if you really want to be prepared for Christmas you can make and freeze enough for many Christmas occasions and events, giving you more time to spend on all the other myriad of preparations.

There is another interesting and innovative way to achieve all the benefits of home cooked food without actually preparing it yourself. There are quite a few companies that offer you a service that enables you to create an entire menu for a meal. The food is frozen and can be taken home for you to keep in this way until you are ready to bake and serve. These meals are a fantastic idea for convenience and because you have included your specifications are the closest thing to a home cooked meal as you can get. You can choose from a variety of dishes but remember that their menu choices are not always constant so your particular preferences may not always be available. The best thing to do is to keep an account of when your favourite dishes are on the menu and to plan to buy them at that time and keep them frozen for those occasions when you will enjoy serving them.

If you are looking for a simple uncomplicated way to have good food at hand without a great deal of expense and planning, then it is certainly worthwhile looking in the frozen food section at the supermarket you frequent. The choice of dishes is actually very good as is the quality. These frozen ready meals can be heated easily at home in your oven and usually come in ovenproof containers. The best choices are usually pasta dishes such as lasagne or macaroni. They may not be as attractive as your own frozen casseroles or the assembled meal menu option but are certainly good value in terms of cost and are quick and easy to prepare making them an ideal choice for informal family meals.

It is not always necessary to be the consumate chef or to spend hours of your precious time preparing a Christmas dinner for it to be enjoyed. There are shortcuts and its worthwhile taking them. If you have planned your Christmas meals well in advance you will be assured that one aspect of the Christmas season is taken care of.

This is a website about cooking fancy – not cooking gourmet. It’s not because gourmet cooking is bad – just the contrary, but this is not it.

It’s about taking whatever you cook and making it look gourmet. It’s about taking the simplest of foods and making them look sensational.

Take, for instance, the salad shown above. It’s a simple chef salad but looks great because of the artistic qualities; it’s not just thrown together on a plate.

Take time with your presentation and you’ll get rave revues for cooking the same thing you’ve always cooked, but now it looks fabulous.

Just think of different ways to make the same dish look better. Maybe it’s the way you cut the sandwich, the garnish on the soup or the placement of the food on the dinner plate.

Whatever you can come up with shows the thought you put into your food.

If you care enough about someone to cook and serve them a meal, care enough to make it look beautiful!

Caring shows! Cook and serve with love.

There are many individuals that are looking for tips to help them get started with some easy dutch oven recipes. Dutch ovens are an old and reliable method for cooking, and are regaining in popularity. Unfortunately, not many know how to use them, so the following are some tips to help you cook with your dutch oven.

Remember that you can always look inside the oven to see how things are looking. Do not be afraid to pop the top. Usually this will not spoil the food. We aren’t dealing with a ‘pressure cooker’ here! Just remember not to do so too frequently as you will be releasing a lot of heat that is necessary for the food to cook properly.

Usually, steam escaping out from under the lid will imply that the heat is too much. Either reduce the heat or remove the pot until the coals have reduced some. Remember that heat regulation is often key with dutch oven recipes.

Try to turn the dutch oven about every 15 minutes. This will usually help reduce the browning of the foot in central areas and/or overcooking certain areas while undercooking other.

When you do rotate the dutch oven, turn it about 90 degrees. Try to stay rotating clockwise so that you do not accidentally rotate clockwise once, for more details visit to www.300-dip-recipes.com then counterclockwise the next. Effectively negating the rotation.

Always use caution when handling the dutch oven. Use mitts or a thick towel to touch the pot as it can often hold heat for long periods of time and no one wants to burn themselves now do they?

Slightly more advance dutch oven cooking tips can involve using the briquettes properly. Adding, removing, for more details visit to www.cat-head-biscuit.com or moving them usually be a way to adjust and/or monitor heat levels in the oven. This was the effective method when dutch ovens were frequently used, and we should learn the same if we want to be excellent campfire chefs!

When you become more comfortable cooking with dutch ovens, you can learn to stack and/or shuffle multiple ovens. This can be a bit advanced so keep it for later if you are new. But this ability will greatly increase food variety and decrease time spent cooking.

If you really want to become proficient at cooking easy dutch oven recipes, then you should take the time to watch how ‘old timers’ cook with dutch ovens, and take the time to learn from good old fasioned experience. The best way to learn is to do, and this is definitely true when it comes to easy dutch oven recipes.

Raw food is the very best diet for anyone. Hearty main-dish salads help you feel full and satisfied. Lighter salads serve as a side dish or appetizer. Dig into one tonight, and you’re well on your way to starting your own salad habit.

A diet can never be complete without fruits. The most appealing factor of fruits is that they are taken raw and are one hundred percent natural. If fruit is canned in 100 percent fruit juice, drain the juice to avoid added calories.

Cooking greens are a Southern tradition – and superstitiously thought to bring good luck for the upcoming year when eaten on New Year’s Day. They include any type of cabbage where the green leaves do not form a compact head.

Beef contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)—particularly if it’s grass-fed—and preliminary research shows that CLA may play a potential role in weight loss and bone health, as well as lower heart disease and cancer risk. Steak recipes and other beef recipes can be tonight’s ticket to eating well! Freezing your food will help with portion control too—you can’t have an extra helping if it’s frozen solid! Sweet potatoes are highly alkalizing foods and are good for the winter months.

Though you can buy baked chips, they still are high in fat and sodium, and tend to be brittle. Making them at home is easy, lets you control the fat and salt, and produces sturdier chips.

Mix together

1 tablespoon (15 ml) low-sodium soy sauce

2 teaspoons (10 ml) fresh lemon juice

1 teaspoon (5 ml) five-spice powder

1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) ground coriander

and 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) garlic powder.

Toss to coat evenly.

Consider lighter fare like a sorbet or a yogurt dish topped with fresh berries and strawberry syrup or fruit with a heavy cream on the side. Try a cappuccino for sweetness or richness, but make it with skim milk.

Increase portions when you serve vegetables and fruits. Use low-fat seasoning with herbs, spices, and lemon juice — think smart, eat well and move more

To lose weight effectively, you need to set realistic goals and create a personal action plan. Your planning should focus on you and your commitment to yourself.

Take note of which foods that you and your family already enjoy. Then try to find more recipes that incorporate those tastes and textures.

Use the Internet as a tool to search for low sodium foods and make your grocery list. Write down the food product, the name of the manufacturer, and the sodium content of each item.

Sodium causes your body to retain, or hold, more water. This increases the work of your heart as it pumps blood through your body.

With a little persistence on your part you’ll come through with flying colors and a slimmer body.

The pie is a ubiquitous symbol of both Italian cooking and Americana. Oven-baked, thin-crust or deep-dish, round or square, it is a common favorite throughout the United States, with a wide number of regional variations.

The most traditional pie is the pizza Napolitano, or Neapolitan pizza. Made of strong flour, the dough is often kneaded by hand and then rolled flat and thin without a rolling pin. The pizza is cooked in an extremely hot wood-fired stone oven for only sixty to ninety seconds, and is removed when it is soft and fragrant. Common varieties of Neapolitan pizza include marinara, made with tomato, olive oil, oregano, and garlic, and marguerite, made with tomato, olive oil, fresh basil leaves, and mozzarella cheese.

New York was home to the first pizza parlor in the United States, opened in Little Italy in 1905 by Gennaro Lombardi. It is not surprising, then, that New York-style pizza dominates in the Northeastern part of the country. It is thin-crusted, and made with a thin layer of sauce and grated cheese. The dough is hand-tossed, making the pie large and thin. As a result, it is served cut into slices, traditionally eight, which are often eaten folded in half. It can be served with any number of toppings, including pepperoni, the most popular topping in the United States, or as a “white pizza”, which includes no tomato sauce and is made with a variety of cheeses, such as mozzarella and ricotta.

Chicago is also home to a major variety of pizza. The Chicago-style pizza is deep dish, meaning it is made in a pan with the crust formed up the sides, or even with two crusts and sauce between, so-called “stuffed” pizzas. The ingredients are “reversed” in a Chicago pizza, with cheese going in first, and then sauce on top. This particular form of pizza was invented in 1943 at Uno’s Pizzeria in the River North neighborhood of Chicago.

The Midwest also plays host to the St. Louis style pizza. This thin-crust delicacy is made using local provel cheese instead of mozzarella, and is very crispy. Heavily seasoned with oregano and other spices, with a slightly sweet sauce, it is difficult to fold because of the crust and is often cut into squares, instead of served in slices.

A Hawaiian pizza is an American invention that has nothing to do with Hawaii save that one of the main ingredients is pineapple. The pineapple is put atop the pizza, along with Canadian bacon, giving a rather sweet taste very different from pizzas closer to the Italian original. Hawaiian pizza is very common in the Western United States.

In fact, a number of esoteric pizzas are common on the West coast, and “gourmet” pizza is often referred to as “California-style” pizza. This is an example of fusion cuisine, and many of the pizzas go far beyond the common tomato sauce and cheese. Thai pizza, for example, can include bean sprouts and peanut sauce, while breakfast pizza, as the name implies, may be topped with bacon and scrambled eggs. As a “gourmet” food, California pizzas are often individual sized, serving two people at most, and are not cut in slices like other common types of pizza pie.

One of the least used and yet most versatile tools in the average kitchen is the slow cooker. With just a few crock pot cooking tips you can turn this dust collector into one of the most useful items in your kitchen

Buying roasts and other big cuts of meat that will go into in your crock pot easily is important. If the cut won’t fit it into the container, trimming the piece down works better than attempting to stuff it further. This is one of the most significant tips on using crock pots that people will learn to appreciate.

Before cooking, you must get rid of the skin and cut away any extra fat from the poultry and other meats. This will assist to lessen the quantity of fat in the completed serving of food as well eliminate any oily flavor.

Some of the best crock pot cooking tips involve using vegetables. Fresh root vegetables, such as potatoes, carrots, and onions, should be placed in the bottom of the pot, under the meat, for more even cooking. These types of vegetables tend to cook more slowly than meat.

This is another neat trick you can use. You can pace the process of thickening the sauces near the end of cooking time by turning up the heat setting. Tasting the liquid to ensure that it has had enough time to flavor is advisable. Leave it on low heat and let it sit a little bit longer until you start to taste the flavor that you want.

Another important point to remember is seasoning in crock pot cooking. Periodically seasoning and tasting prior to taking away the dish is important. This is because crock pots, after sitting for some time, will tend to sometimes water down the flavors. Being resourceful with your seasonings is a good practice.

Adding seasoned salt, garlic powder, seasoned pepper, and complementary herbs and spices is also an excellent way to complete the cooking. Another important thing to remember is that in slow cooked foods, the dish will tend to lose its color. Utilizing certain garnish such as chopped fresh parsley, chives, tomatoes, and red or green peppers when the cooking is nearing completion, helps by adding color to the dish.

Buying a cookbook that has been written especially for crock pot cooking is amongst the best ways to learn to use your slow cooker more effectively. Not only do they offer delicious recipes but also lots of crock pot cooking tips that can help you use your slow cooker with ease and you can find these types of books either online or offline. The slow cooker can really earn its keep once you know how to put it to work, in today’s busy world of working families.

Being a Chinese and growing up with a mum who likes to cook, I have been educated in more ways than one on the various ways to whip up a dish. Here are some helpful tips that are practiced from my own kitchen.

Because of my young children, I have leaned towards healthy cooking choices. In addition, my husband who always eats out due to his frequent business meetings, desperately needs to lose weight. Being a Chinese and growing up with a mum who likes to cook, I have been educated in more ways than one on the various ways to whip up a dish. The following are some helpful tips that are practiced from my own kitchen.

The major thing to keep in mind when cooking is what hurts the foods and takes the nutrients out of them. You can eat a complete meal and end up not having adequate nutrients in any of the foods because of how you cooked. The major types of cooking that will burn away the vitamins include frying, boiling, saute methods and microwave. It is important to consider these methods before deciding on how you will cook your food.

One of the better methods used in preserving the nutrients in food is steaming. Steaming will actually preserve the vitamins and minerals that are in it. Because you don’t have to add any oils or fats, it can also help you with taking away things that you don’t need. A medium sized fish takes only 10 minutes of steaming time. It can be really that fast.

Boiling is also another healthy cooking method. However, do not overboil vegetables as this will kill all the nutrients and enzymes in them. If you need cooked vegetables, boil the water first. In boiling water, put your vegetables in for about 3 minutes. For some taste, you can always make a sauce to pour over the boiled vegetables.

Another thing that you should consider when cooking is what you are putting into the foods while they are on the stove. For example, adding extra salt can lead to a change in your blood pressure over time that isn’t necessarily healthy. In relation to this, you should stay away form flavors and ingredients that have high sodium or fat as part of the recipe. Use the healthier sea salt if you really need to.

All of the foods that you eat should be balanced with raw fruits and vegetables. Having these on hand will help in adding to nutritious value in your diet. Adding a salad or different fruits is always important to your meals.

Healthy cooking does not necessarily translate to bland food. Sure the food may not be as tasty due to the less salt and the cooking method used. But there are ways to getting round them like using natural ingredients; such as, garlic, onions or herbal leaves for flavoring. Take the steam fish for example.

Add in stir-fried chopped garlic, ginger and spring onions for extra punch! As a meal planner, your job lies in seeking these healthy recipes out.

Cooking for better health has its rewards in better nutrition and healthier food for the body. If you and your family are working on implementing a healthier lifestyle, then it means adopting these cooking tips and making healthier eating choices. Everyone stands to benefit in being nourished, feeling energized and looking well.

It is important we know how to cook when we start living on our own, teach your children the fun of being in the kitchen. Make the kitchen a place the family likes to stay in when you’re cooking. That way you will interest them for cooking food and will benefit them once they become adults.

We have all been there; you grow up and at some point need to start your young adult live on your own two legs. You get you own place to stay, sleep and, of course cook so you can eat. The first time was a very strange and maybe evens a scary moment. People who had the biggest problem in this stage of their lives are the ones that were not given any cooking tips when they grew up.

For more details go to: www.bread-bakers-assistant.com People who never got any advice on cooking when they were young could even a problem warming up some hot dogs. We need to make sure that our children learn how to cook so they won’t be surprised the moment they need to cook on their own. We don’t want to see them eating out in all kinds of, maybe fast food, restaurants.

Even if you didn’t get any cooking tips in your childhood and because of this hardly know how to cook for yourself, it is not too late. You just need to get good tips on cooking but you have to make sure that you learn from someone who has been giving lessons for a long time or who knows how to pass on this knowledge to others.

Another option is to get a good book on the subject and try it that way; you could even consult the internet for good recipes and try it that way. The main thing is that you learn to do it your self so you can teach your own children then they don’t have to go down the same path that you gone. And isn’t the idea nice that maybe one day the recipes you taught your children will passed towards their children.

Trial and Error come before Success

We all would love to just learn something and then reproduce that in to a successful end result but we all know that almost never happens. The same goes for cooking tips you learn. For help visit: www.tailgating-recipe.com The first time you will probably fail but by doing this and knowing what you did wrong you can perfect it for the next time you try it. When you teach your children the fine art of cooking and you them making a mistake let them make it. And after they see what went wrong they will learn from it.

There is no harm in a little experimenting in the kitchen, great recipes were born from doing just that, probably it will taste less then is should but they will learn what happens if you mix certain things together and they will have fun in the kitchen. Always give some of your personal tips and secrets to the ones you teach so they will see it as a reward of their efforts. When we speak of letting them make mistakes we mean the kind that doesn’t burn the house down but only influences the taste of the recipe a bit.

It is important we know how to cook when we start living on our own, teach your children the fun of being in the kitchen. Make the kitchen a place the family likes to stay in when you’re cooking. That way you will interest them for cooking food and will benefit them once they become adults.

Before an individual gets started, there are a few steps that should be followed first. These cooking tips will prevent most disasters from happening. Always read through the entire recipe before beginning. This ensures that all necessary ingredients are on hand before starting. Check expiration dates on all non perishable supplies, so that running to the store happens in the middle of baking. Preheat the oven and check with an oven thermometer.

Most ovens can run anywhere from twenty five degrees to cooler to twenty five degrees warmer. This ensures that the proper temperature is obtained for the recipe. Follow directions on adjusting oven racks, prepping baking sheets, and using the right baking pan. Measure ingredients accurately this means holding it up to eye level especially with liquids. To measure dry ingredients over fill then level off with flat edge of knife. Finally bake with love, if an individual is angry or rushed the recipe may not turn out right.

These next cooking tips are about ingredients. There are many different kinds of flour, and they are not all the same. Wheat flour is important for all yeast breads. Bread flour works for yeast loaves, however put it in yeast bread and it will turn into a heavy cake. Cake flour is very fine. All purpose flour can be used for most any baking. Bleached and unbleached flours can be used interchangeably. Make sure to store flour in an airtight container, in a spot that cool and dry for up to six months.

Baking powder and baking soda are not interchangeable. Baking powder is a combination of baking soda and an acid. Its leavening power works when mixed with wet ingredients and then baked into the oven. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate. When it mixes with an acid ingredient like buttermilk, yogurt or molasses, it makes carbon dioxide bubbles that make baked goods light and airy.

Cooking tips for handling chocolate are important. First there are different types of chocolate. Unsweetened chocolate is chocolate liquor that has at least fifty percent cocoa butter and no added sugar. Various amounts of sugar added create bittersweet, semisweet, and dark chocolate.

Milk chocolate is dried milk powder, cocoa butter and added sugar.

White chocolate is made with cocoa butter instead of chocolate liquor.

Unsweetened cocoa is made from chocolate liquor with seventy five percent cocoa butter removed and then dried and ground into a paste.

When melting chocolate it is easy to burn, so always melt it over very low heat. Individuals can choose the double boiler method, the direct heat method, or the microwave oven method.

Using these cooking tips will make almost any baked goodie turn out great.
